The following guidelines are designed to ensure an element of security for both student and landlady/landlord. The guidelines are as fair as possible and it is hoped that landladies/landlords and students will together work out any other details which may arise, before the student comes to live in the accommodation provided.
The 2009/10 academic year begins on Monday 21st September 2009. As orientations is the previous week, most students will arrive on Sunday 13th September, so some students may approach their landlord to stay one or two nights during that week.
For the 2009/10 academic year the required deposit in self-catering accommodation will be the equivalent of 4 weeks rent. This deposit is to be returned to the student at the end of the occupancy or on receipt of written notice, where applicable. So in effect, a student will pay 4 weeks as a deposit and the first week's rent separately. Deposits should be returned to students promptly on receipt of the correct notice.
Students should pay rent weekly in advance. The day the rent should be paid is to be agreed by landlady and tenant.
Twin Room €80 per person Single Room €86
Students must give a minimum of 4 weeks notice in writing if they intend leaving the accommodation. Deposits are to be returned on the student leaving the accommodation. Landladies must also give students a minimum of four weeks written notice to quit.
Students in self-catering accommodation do not pay rent during Christmas holidays.
Some students have exams in the new year so need to let their landlords know they will be back earlier than other students.
Students pay the regular rate during study weeks and Easter Holidays.
Lectures end on Friday 7th May 2009. This is effectively the end of the student's term of residency. If a student wishes to return for the exam period they can make separate arrangements with their landlady.
If a student spends an occasional day away from his/her accommodation there is no reduction in the weekly rent. If a student intends to be away due to course work etc. they should give their landlady as much notice as possible.
Students should have access to the kitchen to cook all meals. Students will supply their own detergents, washing-up liquids etc.
Rooms should have adequate heat and study facilities.
Daily Shower/Bath facilities are required.
Rent includes ESB and heat. If students avail of telephone facilities, they should pay their portion of the total bill accordingly. Itemised bills are useful here.
Students should have keys to the house. They also should be aware of procedures regarding security systems etc. Students should have full access to the house.. Remember that students' lectures begin at varying times so the student in your house may not have to be in college at 9.00 a.m. each morning. Students may want to drop home during the day for books etc. Awareness of alarms systems etc. procedures will ensure that security is maintained.
